Dugan Run Horse Trails & Campgrounds
The Dugan Run Horse Trail is located in east central Washburn County
approximately 13.5 miles east of Spooner or 5 miles west of Stone Lake.
The north trailhead is located 2 miles north of Highway 70 on Dugan Lake
Road. The south trailhead is located 2 miles south of Highway 70 near the
intersection of Harmon Lake Road and Hawthorne Drive.
These trailheads serve over 25 miles of designated horseback trails. The
trails are a mixture of "single track", logging roads, and a small section
shared with an ATV trail. A small section on the north is located on a
forest road open to motor vehicle use. Riders are urged to use caution on
these stretches.
Trails wind through gently rolling terrain, forested with oak, white pine,
and numerous other forest types. There are views of numerous lakes and two
bridges over small streams.
Designated trails are marked and signed. There are also many miles of other
trails in the area where horse riding is permitted. The Nordic Ski Trail to
the east is closed to equestrian use.
Trail users must register and pay any trail pass fees in accordance with
rules and regulations posted on site.
Trailheads and Camping:
Both trailheads have water, bathrooms, pavilions, picnic tables, fire rings,
grills, manure vaults and large parking areas.
The Dugan Run Trailhead offers primitive camping with 10 campsites. A hand
pump is available for water.
The Harmon Lake Trailhead offers more modern camping. The site offers 9
campsites with electrical service. This area also has an electric well and
two water sources.
Users are asked to collect all manure and place it in the concrete vaults
located on site. There is no garbage pickup service at either site.
Campers are asked to dispose of their own garbage. Campers are permitted to
gather firewood from County Forest adjacent to the trailheads.
